sanger.
thoughts on margaret sanger.
this will be ongoing as i don't imagine my opinion will be properly formed in one day. how could it be.

what do i know so far? quite confusing really. to hear the perspectives on her from either the left or the right- both seem exaggerated. strangely enough, both sides seem to recognize the arguments of the other, at least to some degree. maybe the right less so. what an interesting legacy to leave. i think ill have to read her own writing to really understand. and i'll have to make time for that. that starts with... identifying what i will read, to begin with. but ill probably distract myself with more awkward youtube videos until then.
seems like the right is accusing the left of re-writing history to suit their political motivations. and this is regarding her (what i'll call for now... alleged?) racist and eugenistic views. i dont think i can understand her views until i read her work for myself.
hate that the first thing im putting here is from a christian news source... but so it goes i guess. this is in reference to what i meant above.
this is also... interesting. for a million reasons. the cigarettes, the fact that they made her (i assume) shill them at the end. her words here dont seem to carry the malice implied in the above video. also... even the title of this video seems to imply some malice or evil? i'm not sure i see it yet, at this point.
next up. this youtube video. caught my eye because it seems like it's a spin-off of the true-crime genre. never watched this creator before. really interested to see what they have to say honestly. hm. only like. 3 minutes in of 50 and it's already giving a lil bit of clitbait vibes but i will hold out and see whats up. also?? 6.76 million subscribers? im always surprised about how many giant creators there are that i have just never heard of. at time of watching, this video has 3,860,184 views. wild!
seems like the trials on the women in puerto rico is what is being described as the darkness of the history. true. but still, only just getting to the bit about sanger. was weird how she interested a little bit about like "whats up with puerto rico is it america or not" to drive home that sketchy feeling.
skincare ad. hahahaha. true! i do need that! thank you so much! is there something here in the comparison to the cigarette ads in the other video? probably. thought for another day. but there's probably a lot to be understood through the framing, tone, product... that are situated beside the same subject in different time periods.
bailey brings up a frame that i havent yet come across. the idea that sanger believed that poverty was to blame for over population. i guess these ideas have been implied but never stated this directly in the content thus far. the issue is that minorities in poverty are the ones being focused on. was her focus poverty, or minorities? an emphasis on either aspect completely changes the perception of her.
enter clarence gamble. uh oh! things are looking sketchy!
enter gregory pincus. scientist without much more info. bailey calls them the trio of mean girls. aaa.
bailey also says that the viewpoint of puerto rico is that more poor people means less rich people. oh this shit is sooo fucking messy my god.
framing sterilization narratives as similar to our "you must go to college to succeed" narratives. god. tugging on heart strings here fr. very conflicted.
what i'd be even more interested in at this point is seeing a video from bailey about a topic im already informed on. so i can understand the type of views she has and the narrative tools she uses to tell her "stories".
dog dna test ad?? kdfljgkldfs lol.
oh p&g released a statement that said the puerto rico project was racially motivated AND unscientific?? big yikes.
perfume ad break?? oh wow its constant.
had to actually do work hah ill figure this out another day again
